The Palio of Asti – (horse race) is one of the most important events in Piedmont and the oldest Palio in Italy, even though it is considered only the second in importance and fame. It takes place the second Sunday of September in the central square of Asti and foresees the participation of 21 horses rode by as many jockeys representing the 14 suburbs of the town and 7 municipalities of the Province.

During the Sagre Contadine, Country Fair which takes place in Piazza del Palio, about 40 villages offer you their food specialties together with some of the best Asti wines. All this happens after the suggestive parade in the historical centre of Asti, animated by more than 3.000 characters wearing costumes, tractors, ancient tools representing the values and the traditions of this charming land.

The Canelli Siege is a festival where the historical recreation is made more authentic by the involvement of the population; more than 2000 characters wear XVII century costumes recreating for two days the Canelli Siege which took place in 1613.

The “Douja d’Or“ Prize is a National Oenological Competition for DOC and DOCG wines; it takes place in September and it is organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Asti with the support of ONAV.
